There's a little girl living in the house behind ours. She's an only child about Grace's age and her name is Annalise. Annalise is like a celebrity. When there's a sighting, Mia, Grace and Sophie run headlong out the back door to "play" with her through the fence. For her part, Annalise loves to peer in on the mysterious adventures going on in our backyard.
About six months ago, Annalise's dad decided to buy her a play set like ours so now the girls can climb up to their towers and talk over the fence. Encounters with Annalise are always exciting because she'll often pass drink boxes and yummy snack packages through the small opening at the corner of the fence. Our girls pass things through too the most memorable being when Grace tried to show off a heavy garden stone we'd made for Chris one Father's Day. It didn't quite survive the hand off!
Yesterday, Chris took out one of the boards in the fence so the girls could have their first real play date. They played all afternoon. What a treat that was!
Unfortunately, Annalise's family is moving out this week for four to six months. Hurricane Ike sent a tree crashing through their roof and their central beam shifted three inches. They're having sheet rock replaced and floors redone. It'll be nice for them to come back to a whole new house but in the meantime, our girls will miss their over-the-fence friend.
