Dolly the Llama

Here, Mia is practicing for her presentation to the science club

Today, we had the first meeting of our new science club.  This semester, we are studying animals--more specifically, mammals, reptiles and bugs.  For today's meeting, each student chose one mammal and shared information about it with the group.  Mia chose a llama and Grace did the chihuahua.  Sophie sat in on the chihuahua fact-finding sessions but didn't present at the meeting.
For this project, we took a question and answer approach in an attempt to teach the girls about the study of science itself and the scientific method.  Chris and Mia brainstormed questions about llamas and I worked with Grace and Sophie who came up with good questions about chihuahuas.  As we all looked for answers to our questions, we came up with other interesting tidbits like the fact that chihuahuas are among the longest-living breed of dog at an average of 14-15 years.  That was fun for all of us.
At our meeting, Mia and Grace went first and were very comfortable speaking in front of the group.  I think Grace's favorite part was when Mia asked her, "do chihuahuas speak Spanish?" and Grace said, "I know one who does" and showed a picture of the Taco Bell chihuahua saying "yo quiero Taco Bell".  She finds that hilarious.
Between, Science Club, Book Club, Craft Days and field trips I think we will have a fun-filled, educational year.

  2. Mia's project reminds me of Ella's favorite books. Llama Llama Red Pajama and Llama Llama Mad at Mama. We can't wait for the next Llama Llama book to bring home!

Can't wait to see craft day projects!

Oh, and don't forget about piano lessons ;)
